A change in taste can happen in certain situations, particularly when first using a new filter or after a long period without use.
In most cases, this is temporary and easy to correct.
1. Is your filter new? This is often normal
During the first uses, a slight unusual taste may appear. This is generally related to the natural components of the new filter.
We recommend letting about 10 litres of water pass through during the first installation and then discarding that water before drinking.
It is also normal to notice a few fine dark particles at the beginning. These disappear after the first filtrations.
2. The system has been unused for several days
If your system has not been used for several days, stagnant water can slightly alter the taste.
After a prolonged period without use, we recommend filling the upper chamber and then discarding the filtered water before resuming normal use.
3. The filter may need maintenance
Over time, certain mineral deposits or particles naturally present in water can affect the filter's performance.
Regular cleaning of the filter often helps improve filtration quality as well as the taste of the water.
4. The filter may have reached the end of its life
If the unusual taste persists despite cleaning and normal use, your filter may have reached the end of its life.
Coldstream FTO+ filters generally have a lifespan of about 6 months or between 1,500 and 3,000 litres of filtered water, depending on the model, water quality and usage.
Water that is particularly high in limescale or particles may require more frequent replacement.
